Join us every third Sunday

Poppy and I are alone on the bridge this evening.  She was watching the Classical Brit Awards waiting for to see the nominations for the ‘Music for the Cultured Cat’ Award.  I did a bit of surfing – looking for the local cycling fraternity.  The roads round here are wonderfully flat – although, if I turn left towards the Tay, it is straight downhill for a mile.  The cycling websites are full of helpful stuff for the armchair tourer.  Some are for the mountain bikers who like to hurl themselves down the nearest mountain in the cycling equivalent of white water rafting.  Others invite me to join the peloton – I suppose I could bring up the rear as bishops do in procession.  And the Perth and Kinross Cyclists say, ‘Join us every third Sunday’  Maybe they would join me on the second Sunday in return.

  1. You’re on! Once I have checked the density of the contour lines on the map. This bit of Scotland is certainly flat. It also seems to be something of a safari park – disturbed a deer in the lane on my way home tonight. As pants the hart … etc, etc. And BTW, to be completely flat-earthish, what about the EU directive re lead in organ pipes?

  2. Dear+ David.
As a cyclist, perhaps with legs not so sure as they were 30 years ago in London, when an 85 miles meeting was not a chore, I would dearly invite you to take the “neccessity brae” challenge up past the Cherrybank Inn towards Forteviot.
This may wish you to regret thinking that all roads in Perthshire are wonderfully flat and whilst testing your fitness, will give you quite glorious views of valley and dale.
I promise upon your arrival at my premises, you will be whisked to a decent “Pub Lunch” in Dunning, as every Good Bishop should deserve.
( As I can fit a bike into the back of my car, the uphill return can be forgotten )
If not by this means of transport, my invitation still stands. !!

    With all good wishes,

    Sandy
